BRICK DEATHPOOL OFFICIAL RULES

-The cost will be $10/person to be held in escrow by Rob Murray.

-The winner will receive the entire pot minus $10. The second-place finisher will receive their $10 entry fee back.

-"Teams" will be drafted in a 20 round draft called "The Undertaking". The draft order will be randomly drawn from a hat at The Undertaking and the Undertaking will commence in a “snake style” format until each squad has 20 candidates.

- The Clock Rule: There is a THREE (3) MINUTE time limit per selection with NO EXCEPTIONS. After three minutes the first celebrity name that is shouted out at by someone present at The Undertaking will be the candidate selected.

-Points will be awarded for each death in the following manner:

Death Points =100 - (age of deceased at the time of their death)

-Points will also be awarded for the total number of deaths to reward those who choose to undertake more veterans as opposed to young talent.

     Three Deaths = 25 points

     Five Deaths = 50 points

     Seven Deaths = 100 points

     Ten Deaths = 200 points

Each Death over 10 Deaths will be an additional 100 points

-"Bonus Points" will also be awarded in the following manner:

    - +50 if you have a candidate that is currently presumed dead, but it is then revealed that they are actually not yet dead and they then expire before the deadline of the pool (example: Elvis is discovered to be alive and then dies before the end of 2005).  This is known as the Helder-Lightfoot rule.

    - +10 for any deaths up until the end of the first full day after the draft, January 9, 2006

    - +5 for the first death.

    - +10 if your candidate is murdered.

- +5 if your candidate dies an accidental death.  Accidental death is any death in which the candidate does NOT die from natural causes, and whose death did not result from the intent of another person to cause any kind of bodily harm to the candidate.

    - +3 if your candidate takes his own life. For sake of the scoring, all drug overdoses will be considered an accidental death unless a suicide note has been left and signed by the candidate.

- -5 if one of your candidates is murdered by or is murdered by a hitman hired by another one of your candidates.

- +5 for each time your chosen “franchise player” expires. A franchise player for each team is to be designated following the conclusion of The Undertaking. Every time your franchise player expires you must designate a new franchise player. Note that it is merely for your own benefit to do so in a timely manner.

- +25 if your candidate dies from the result of carbon monoxide inhalation after being trapped inside of an underground mine. Furthermore, if a national newspaper, such as USA Today, inaccurately reports that your candidate actually survived the accident, when in fact they were already dead when they were discovered then you will receive an additional +25 point bonus.

-All people chosen in The Undertaking must have some type of celebrity status and news of their death should at a minimum receive mention on the AP wire.  Example: Kerri Strug.

-No "common people" are allowed to be taken in the draft.  No person who is in any way currently affiliated with Brick Memorial High School, Rowan University, 94.7 The River, Princeton University, The University of Delaware, Comcast, GlaxoSmithKline, Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson, PathMark Stores Inc., Fort Monmouth New Jersey, Valsource, Primerica or ATT will be allowed to be chosen.  You must also be prepared to defend all of your candidates to the rest of the league if their celebrity status is called into question.

- No terrorists are allowed to be taken in The Undertaking. Furthermore, no personality who has received celebrity status due to a direct threat from a terrorist or terrorist organization is allowed to be taken in The Undertaking. An example of this would be picking up Iwad Allawi the day after he was named the interim Prime Minister of Iraq and whose life came under direct threat when Abu Musab Al-Zarqawi declared, “I am going to kill Iwad Allawi.” Furthermore, most Arab and Muslim candidates will likely be denied at The Undertaking due to the unnaturally high risk of death that they assume by living in the Middle East . It also detracts from the intended spirit of a celebrity death pool if the candidates are not truly celebrities, but rather idiots who strap bombs to their bodies and walk into a mosque. Acceptable Arab candidates would include Ariel Sharon or Mahmoud Abbas. Osama Bin Laden and Saddam Hussein may also be chosen, but if it is discovered that Bin Laden was killed or died in 2006, but it wasn't revealed until after the last day of Brick Death Pool 2006, December 31, 2006, you will not receive the points for his death. Sorry, but that is the risk you take in selecting a man with a $50 kagillion bounty on his head.

-Trades are allowed.  However, your team roster may not exceed 20 members. If you make an uneven trade (i.e. 1 player for 2 players), you must drop any of your members (except your franchise player) in order to lower your roster to 20 members. All trades are subject to approval by the co-commissioners Rob Murray, John Patrick Sadak and honorary co-commissioner Ian Reiser. All decisions are also open for debate. This death pool is a democracy. This last sentence cannot be stressed enough.

-Drops and additions are allowed.  If you would like to do a drop/add you must e-mail both commissioners ( but not the honorary co-commissioner ) and state who you wish to pick up and drop.  If nobody else requests your candidate within 24 hours your transaction will be approved.  If one or more people both request to pick up the same candidate then an auction will be held and bidding will start with the first person who requested the candidate.  The money will go to the pot. Once a candidate's bidding has been won he is the property of the winning mortician. Each mortician will be allowed a maximum of TEN (10) drop/add moves (no limits on trades). If a candidate's celebrity status is in question by any member of the Death Pool then a vote will be taken. All members of the Death Pool have 24 hours to cast their vote. A majority rule must win in order to overturn the decision of the commissioners. The mortician who is attempting to acquire the candidate in question is not allowed a vote.

-You may not in any way contribute to any death of anyone chosen in The Undertaking.  Failure to comply with this rule will result in your expulsion Brick Death Pool 2006 and your entry fee will not be refunded. Also, you will receive a MANDATORY one-year suspension from Brick Death Pool. To rejoin Brick Death Pool, you must defend yourself in front of the other morticians at The Undertaking. A majority vote will determine your fate. (NOTE: In the rare case of a once suspended mortician AGAIN violating this rule, you will be encased in a small sliver of glass and sent into space like General Zod in Superman II).

-Brick Death Pool 2006 will end at precisely 11:59:59 PM on December 31, 2006 .
